Last month, Jover Group renewed its ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Certificate awarded by ENAC (Entidad Nacional de Acreditación).
The environmental audit took place on June 19th and 20th and it was carried out by the independent audit company SGS at the group’s headquarters and factory located in Cocentaina, Alicante. The positive results of the plan’s review demonstrate the company’s commitment to the environmental protection.
*The ISO 14.001 standard is an international legislation that rules the basic concepts for introducing and improving an environmental management system through which we will be able to: anticipate and manage the environment issues derived from our activity, reduce emissions, discharges, waste generation and ensure the highest respect for the environment.
ENVIRONMENTAL STRATEGY AT JOVER GROUP
In the pursuit of optimizing our management of factory resources, waste and the reduction of the environmental impact of a textile company, the main concepts of our environmental management are the following: the coproduction of electric and thermal energy, the photovoltaic solar plants placed at the upper deck of the industrial plant and the sewage treatment system that allows water treatment and recycling.
1. COPRODUCTION OF ENERGY
Jover has a coproduction energy-efficient system of natural gas that can produce at the same time electric and thermal energy. This energy is used for the different production processes at the factory, obtaining an important energy saving and supplying the total demand of hot water through the cogeneration use.
2. PHOTOVOLTAIC SOLAR PLANT
Regarding the use of renewable energy sources, the company has a high number of photovoltaic panels** installed at the upper deck of the industrial plant. Their main functions are:
- Providing renewable energy equivalent to the 20% of the total company consumption.
- Generating approximately a million KW per year (the anual consumption of 300 houses).
- Allowing the saving of more than 500 tonnes of Co2 emissions.
** In the year of its launching, 2007, it was one of the biggest photovoltaic solar deck plants installed in Spain, and the biggest one of the Comunidad Valenciana.
3. SEWAGE TREATMENT SYSTEM
The EDAR (Sewage Treatment Station) installed at Jover can treat all the water used in the factory processes and ensures that the water is pumped with the demanded quality by law. All the process of sewage treatment is a fully automated system and is controlled for its correct management, obtaining a minimum impact in the environment.
The management of the environmental protection, a way of business innovation and productivity.
The environmental management plan, along with our policy and rules, is a business priority verified and reviewed each year. Furthermore, it is a social responsibility that allows the company to obtain some environmental, economic and commercial benefits that support the ongoing improvement of production, the pollution prevention and the better compliance with the current legislation on environmental protection.
